Shillong team bring in 4 players on loan

 SHILLONG: Local favourites Royal Wahingdoh FC are eyeing for an impressive run in the qualifying round of the Federation Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Kolkata from Thursday.

The team wants to leave behind its disappointing run in the Second Division I League held in Shillong earlier this year.

Their weak defence largely contributed in their dismal show in that tournament.

This time the team has tried to strengthen its defence by taking players on loan from various clubs of the country.

“We have taken cognizance to all the drawbacks which contributed to our dismal show in the Second Division I League. To strengthen our defence, we have taken a few players on loan from different clubs,” Royal Wahingdoh FC Managing Director Marcus Sutnga told reporters here on Wednesday.

He said the players whom they have taken on loan are Marlangki Suting (Shllong Lajong FC), Kareem Omolaja Nurain (Nigerian from JCT) and Francis Efe Egware (Nigerian from Gharwal Heroes FC, New Delhi). Besides these three, the Shillong team has also taken on loan Saroj Pradhan, a goalkeeper from Orissa.

He also informed that the Club has also signed a few new players which include Beekay Bawar from Liberia, Tenzing Dhondup, Nikhil C Bernard, C Laldinmawia and Chencho from Bhutan.

When asked about the preparation of the team, Royal Wahingdoh MD said the team had a good preparation for the tournament while adding that the team was on a very high spirit.

Royal Wahingdoh are placed in group B along with United Sikkim, Southern Samity and ONGC. The team will play its first match against Southern Samity on Friday.
