Suspected Pak natls arrested

Agartala: Two suspected Pakistani nationals were arrested by Mobile Task Force (MTF) personnel from Agartala railway station on Thursday evening.

According to report, acting on secret information, MTF detained two suspected Pak nationals who were found loitering across the station at evening while speaking in Urdu. The accused are said to be the residents of Bangladesh. They were identified as Mohamed Aniaretulla (30) and Mohamed Ali (32), residents of Chittagong and Maimonsingh respectively.

Police has recovered some Urdu literature of Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi and some other papers related to Pakistan, Indian currency of Rs 5000/- and two mobile sets from them. They were interrogated last night. Police had sought seven- day remand to interrogate them. (UNI)

EC convenes meeting with poll officials

Imphal: The Election Commission has convened a meeting with Manipur poll officials to discuss the next year’s state legislative assembly elections, official sources said on Friday.

The meeting has been convened on September 15 in New Delhi. Sources said Chief Election Officer and senior officials of the state election commission would attend the meeting. Elections to Manipur legislative assembly are scheduled for February next year.

The meeting would discuss the necessary procedures and steps to be taken up before the polls, they added. (PTI)

Two insurgents arrested

Imphal: Two insurgents of People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of the Revolutionary People’s Party, were arrested during a search operation by police commandos from an interior village in Imphal West district, officials said on Friday. The commandos launched a search operation at Senjam Chirang village last evening following reports of insurgent movement, they said. During the search operation, two PLA insurgents identified as L Sanajaoba (23) and Thokchom Sanjit (27) were arrested, they said, adding that the two have been handed over to Imphal police station for interrogation. Over 100 insurgents have so far been arrested by police and other central forces from different parts of Manipur this year, they said. (PTI)
