Guwahati: A tribal students’ body, All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has extended support to the statehood movement of people of Telangana region and at the same time criticized the Central government’s ‘casual attitude’ to the sensitive issue. The ABSU has been demanding a separate state for Bodo tribe living in Assam
The president of the ABSU Promode Boro said, “We are deeply disturbed by the way Government of India is dealing so casually a sensitive issue (Telangana movment). The demand of separate Telangana and Bodoland state has started several decades ago. The creation of separate state is nothing new in this country. In order to meet the aspirations of people the Union of India has created many states since the Independence. But in case of Telangana, Bodoland and other separate state demands, the Centre has been adopting a discriminatory attitude.”
“Is not the constitution of the nation is for all? If the Article 2 and 3 of the Constitution cannot be exercised in such an important moment what is the use of it? The peaceful general strike called by people of Telangana has crossed more than three weeks now. But the UPA government has remained indecisive which is really unfortunate,” the ABSU leader said.
The ABSU has demanded creation of a State Reorganization Commission of India to look into demands for separate States including Bodoland and Telangana.
The state Reorganization Commission of India must be headed by an independent person having members from all separate state demanding regions and organizations.
The ABSU observes, “Smaller states that have been created bifurcating larger states, are performing so well in all the spheres. The smaller states have been able to give fair social, political, economic and cultural justice to all sections of the society. The governance of the smaller states has been far better than the bigger states of India. Besides there are numerous political, social, economic and other benefits of a smaller state.
It is in this context the All Bodo Students’ Union is demanding formation of a State Reorganization Commission of India which will look into the issue of Separate State of Bodoland with utmost sincerity.
We hope that Government of India will immediately arrive at a decision in the stated directions to amicably resolve the issue of Bodoland, Telengana and other states and provide justice to the exploited and discriminated citizens of the country.
