Sushila wins gold in Asian junior judo

New Delhi: India bagged seven medals, including a gold from Sushila Devi, at the Asian Youth and Junior Judo Championships in Beirut.

Indian judokas also won four silver and two bronze medals in the competition.

Sushila won her gold in the below 52 kg girls category and defeated opponents from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan on her way to the title. For her performance, Judo Union of Asian picked Sushila as the best judoka of the tournament. She also won the gold in the Commonwealth Championships in 2010.

B.R. Sangeeta won the silver in the above 63 kg category. India’s five medals came from the concurrently held junior championships.

H. Dhanapriyari (below 44 kg), Kuthuja Multhani (48 kg) and H. Sunibal (70 kg) won a silver each in the girls category while Veerbhan (60 kg) and Avtar Singh (81 kg) settled for a bronze in boys. (IANS)
