Guwahati: The wife of an Assam MLA was allegedly shot dead by the Personal Security Officer(PSO), who later shot himself, at Dholagaon in western Assam’s Bongaigaon district on Sunday.
Superintendent of Police Nitul Gogoi said preliminary investigation indicate that the PSO, Sanatan Das, shot dead Jeuti Rai, wife of Bhupen Rai, following an altercation.
”Apparently, the PSO had shot dead Ms Rai and then tried to kill himself. He was rescued and has been admitted to a local hospital,” Mr Gogoi added.
He said there were no signs of any external firing or use of force, adding that the details could be known only after investigation is over.
Rai is an Opposition Asom Gana Parishad MLA from Abhayapuri North constituency. (UNI)
