GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday stressed the need for disaster preparedness and suggested that the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) should give emphasis to safety in schools.
Addressing the fourth meeting of the ASDMA here, the chief minister said emphasis should be given to safety in schools through training and mock drills.
He directed the education department to follow up on the preparation of school disaster management plans and report on action taken during the next ASDMA meeting. Gogoi also instructed the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority to make a survey of schools housed in residential buildings and take action against those who have changed the use of a residential building to school building.
