Dismantle temple at Khliehriat: NGOs

 JOWAI: The All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO) and the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Jaintia Hills district unit has demanded immediate dismantling of an under construction temple at Khliehriat.

A joint release by AJYWO president, MH Dkhar and KSU-JHDU general secretary, Streamly S Niangti said, “We demand the Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge Khliehriat sub-division to immediately issue an order to dismantle the temple at Khliehriat. The NGO leaders alleged that the temple was erected on government land belonging to the PWD.

Members of the AJYWO and KSU-JHDU also met the ADC in charge Khliehriat apprising him of their demand.The ADC in charge Khliehriat civil sub-division, E. Kharmalki informed that he had received an order from the Deputy Commissioner instructing him to dismantle the temple.

“I will soon issue an order to the puja committee to dismantle the temple within 15 days with effect from the date of issue of the order”, he said.
