SHILLONG: UDP legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit, who initiated the ‘Clean Politics Campaign’ in 2010 aimed at eradicating mal practices in the State politics, has announced a public rally to be held next year to provide additional impetus to the campaign.

The rally to be organised on February 4, 2012 at Madan Iewrynghep in Laitumkhrah, will assume significance considering that the electoral battle for the 2013 State Assembly polls would take off around the same time.

Basaiawmoit announced the date for the rally which addressing a gathering at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall recently.

He mentioned that he had organised 50 meetings in different pockets of Khasi-Jaintia Hills as part of his campaign. During the meetings, attempts were made to enlighten people on the need for clean politics in the State.

“We will have to make the campaign more vibrant to ensure that the State receives clean and effective governance as good governance is the only saviour for Meghalaya which is reeling under hardship due to several problems,” Basaiawmoit said.

“Formation of new political parties would not help in bringing about clean politics in the State,” Basaiawmoit said, while pointing out that at least three new political parties were formed since 1988 but none of them could serve the purpose.

The gathering also took an anti-bribery pledge, promising that no inducement would be given or taken.
