Los Angeles: Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from basketball player Kris Humphries, putting an end to their 72-day old marriage.

The 31-year-old said she had hoped that her marriage to Humphries would last forever but their relationship did not not work out as planned, reported TMZ online.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage, I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best,” Kardashian said.

Documents filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday requested miscellaneous jewellery and other personal effects as well as earrings and accumulations owned by Kardashian before, during and after the short marriage to be confirmed as separate property.

Humphries is devastated after Kardashian filed for divorce.

“I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work,” he said.

It is rather an abrupt end to their fairytale wedding in August where they spent a staggering USD 20 million. It is not clear what Kardashian will do with her USD 2 million engagement ring.

The couple, however, has a pre-nuptial agreement in place, which will help them divide their assets. Kardashian is willing to split the attorney fees and has asked the court to reject her soon to be ex if he requests for spousal support.

The divorce has added fuel to rumours that Kardashian-Humphries marriage was a big publicity stunt for their reality show. (PTI)
