All Souls’ Day observed

 SHILLONG: Along with the rest of the world, All Souls’ Day was observed in the state on Wednesday where over thousands of Catholic faithful offered prayers and placed lighted candles in the graves of their loved ones as a mark of remembrance.

On this occasion, the Shillong Archdiocese of the Catholic Church organized a concelebrated Mass at the Laitumkhrah Catholic Cemetery on Wednesday, where the clergy including brothers and sisters of different congregations along with the faithful participated

This day is observed by the Roman Catholic Church as a mark of remembering the departed loved ones and praying for them to liberate their souls from the temporary state of punishment called “purgatory”.

Rituals including a Holy Mass were conducted on this day. Besides, the priest read the Holy Scripture which was a reminder of the eternal life promised by Lord Jesus Christ, followed by the singing of hymns.
