Aizawl: Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) Vice President and former minister Dr R. Lalthangliana on Thursday accused the UPA and the state government of dragging Mizoram into grave financial crisis.

Lalthangliana said that UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi promised, during the 2008 assembly hustings, that PM’s Special Package would be provided for funding the New Land Use Policy (NLUP), the flagship programme of the Congress.

“UPA leaders and state Congress leaders promised that the NLUP fund would be given over and above the state plan outlay and from the Prime Minister’s special package, but the NLUP fund amounting to Rs 234 crore for the current fiscal was diverted from the state annual plan outlay of Rs 1,700 crore,” he said.

The Congress came to power in Mizoram by making false promises to the people, he alleged adding that Finance minister H. Liansailova recently informed the assembly that the NLUP fund was from the additional central assistance, incorporated in the state annual plan.

“Mizoram’s annual plan in 2010-11 was Rs 1,500 crore and the annual plan in 2011-2012 was Rs 1,700 crore.

If the Rs 234 crore earmarked for NLUP is deducted, the annual plan for the current financial year comes to less than last year’s plan fund,” he said. (PTI)
