SHILLONG: A city court has granted bail to Phani Deb (62), the main accused of murder of one Kanailal Saha of Laitumkhrah.
Informing this here on Wednesday, a police officer from Laitumkhrah PS said police have filed a suo-moto case immediately after the incident and investigation is on.
“We are awaiting the post-mortem report,” said the police officer adding that the accused is still admitted in the Shillong Civil Hospital on health ground.
Both Deb and Saha were the tenants of one Rajat Chowdhury.
A brawl between Deb, the owner of Meghalaya Pharmacy, Laitumkhrah, and Saha led to the death of the latter on November 5. The incident took place when both went to fetch water from a community well in the morning.
“While granting bail, the court directed the accused to appear before it whenever summoned and cannot leave the city without prior permission of the court,” sources said.
