Two fall to death in Himachal

SHIMLA: Two people died in the district as they fell to death in separate accidents which occurred during last 24 hours, police sources said. A taxi driver was found dead near tourism office lift here on Wednesday morning. He was declared brought dead in the hospital. The deceased, identified as Ashok Kumar, was suspected to have fallen to death from a hill. In a similar mishap which occurred at Chopal area, a keyman of IPH department, fell down into a gorge when he lost control while crossing a narrow pathway. The deceased was identified as Ramesh Kumar from Bohar village. Bodies of both were sent for post-mortem, sources said. (UNI)

2 killed as lorry falls in gorge

VIJAYAWADA: The driver and the cleaner of a lorry were crushed to death when the vehicle fell into 50 feet deep gorge at Garikapadu village, near Jaggayyapet in Krishna district on Wednesday. Police said the ill-fated vehicle was engaged into road doubling works and carrying soil. It fell into a gorge from Paleru bridge, killing the drive and cleaner of the vehicle on the spot. The deceased were yet to be identified, police said. (UNI)

3 killed, 36 injured in road mishap

BHABHUA (BIHAR): Three members of a marriage party were killed and 36 others injured, 10 of them seriously, when a bus rammed into a stationary truck on NH-2 in Bihar’s Kaimur district on Wednesday. The driver of the bus lost control and rammed into the truck, near Muthani village under Mohania police station area, and three died on the spot, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jawed Mahmood said. Thirty-six others suffered injuries and taken to hospital where the condition of ten was stated to be serious. The bus was carrying wedding guests from Palamu district of Jharkhand to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. (PTI)

18 fishermen arrested

KENDRAPARA (ORISSA): Continuing their drive against illegal fishing inside the restricted Gahirmatha Marine sanctuary,the Bhitarkanika forest officials on Wednesday arrested 18 fishermen who were later sent to jail by a local court. The DFO of Rajnagar Mangorve and wildlife Division Manoj Kumar Mohapatra said all the 18 fishermen were booked under Wildlife Protection Act,1972 and produced before a local court. The forest officials also seized two fishing boats from the possession of the jailed fishermen. He said a joint patrol team comprising personnel from Forest Department, local police and fishery department intercepted the two mechanized boats 8 kms away from Agarnashi and overpowered the fishermen. Later, the team intercepted arrested the fishermen along with seizing two boats, fish catch and fishing equipments from their possessions. With the arrested of the 18 fishermen,the forest officials have so far arrested 63 fishermen and seized as many as 10 fishing vessels from them. The traditional fisher folk are now in deep trouble due to fishing ban imposed by the government from November 1 to May next to protect the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles during their mass nesting. Excise officials seize duplicate liquor

MUMBAI: The officials of State Excise Department has seized duplicate foreign liquor worth Rs 8.79 lakh from two people at Goregaon in north Mumbai late Tuesday night. Deputy Superitendent of Excise Department M D Sivare told reporters that acting on a specific information that some persons were selling duplicate brands of foreign liquor like Johnny Walker Black Label and Red Label among others, a team of Excise officials raided the Awasthi Industrial Estate at Goregaon, and arrested Bharat Bovaria (28) and Haresh Makwana (27) and seized liquor worth Rs 8,79,848. Giving details of the modus operandi, he said the arrested accused used to purchase empty bottles from scrap dealers and fill them up with duplicate liquor and send it to Gujarat. They were receiving regular orders from Gujarat for past one year, he added. (UNI)

Mother-son duo found murdered

JAIPUR: A 45-year-old woman and her son were on Wednesday found murdered in Ajmer city, police said. Neeru and her son Pramod, in early 20s, were found dead at their residence in Christian Ganj area. Prima facie it appeared they were strangulated, police said, adding that murder was apparently the only motive as all the items inside the house were found intact. (PTI)

3 persons killed in accident

RANCHI (JHARKHAND): In all three persons were run over and killed by a speeding truck at Katari more on the Khunti-Torpa main road near Khunti district on Wednesday. Police said all the three persons returning from a marriage party died on the spot. Meanwhile, locals agitated over the incident, set the killer truck on fire. (UNI)
