SHILLONG: A weighbridge leased by the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) weighbridge, which has been accused of illegally collecting Rs 1200 from each passing truck, will be closed in a day or two.

East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi on Thursday said he would order closure of the weighbridge in a day or two.

The decision to close the weighbridge came after the Opposition NCP had alleged that the weighbridge leased by the GHADC at Wageasi, East Garo Hills, was collecting Rs 1,200 from each truck passing through it defying government approved rates.

“The weighbridge will remain closed until the matter is fully investigated,” Bakshi added.
