NONGSTOIN: In order to provide better health care to the people in the rural areas, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) through the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, Nongstoin organized a two day health mela at Rangblang village on Tuesday and Wednesday, where thousands of people benefited. The Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Health and Family Welfare, Rowell Lyngdoh was the chief guest at the inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion the Deputy Chief Minister stated that the purpose of organizing this Health Mela was not just giving free medical treatment to the people, but it was also making them aware about different types of sickness and how to be self responsible of caring about our own health. He therefore, called upon the people to take the opportunity of this health mela by availing free medical checkup for various diseases where specialist Doctors on different lines are available.
Lyngdoh also informed that the government through the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) was trying hard to strengthen the health care services in our state by organizing different health camps and health melas in rural areas. Further, he urged upon the people to extend their cooperation with government for the smooth implementation of various developmental schemes.Later, Specialist doctors from Shillong and Nongstoin rendered medical check up to the people from different age group during the two- day health mela.
