Dry Day
The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills has declared December 24, 25 and January 1, 2012 as ‘Dry Day’ throughout the district on account of Christmas and New Year celebration.

Fancy dress parade
The Dorbar Shnong of Laban organized a Fancy dress parade on December 17 as part of the o-going Laban Week, 2011. Around 27 children under the age of 16 participated in the parade which started from playground of the Laban Sports Club till St John’s Church and later to Iewdak Parking Lot. Prices will be distributed to the winners on the last day of the Laban Week on December 30 at 1pm at the same playground.
Achievement
Rahul S Chatterjee, Assistant Lecturer Shillong Jail Road Boys’ Higher Secondary School has been selected for the International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) which is a teacher-exchange programme conducted by the United States Department of State.
The programme which aimed to impart knowledge in world’s best teaching practices and methodologies, lesson planning and use of technology in education will also be a great opportunity for cultural exchange among the sixty five teachers selected from different countries.
Chatterjee who teaches Physics, will be learning at the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
