SHILLONG: Hours after releasing Dadenggre BDO PK Boro, the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) on Saturday warned ‘corrupt’ government officials and politicians of ‘severe punishment’.

The area commander of the outfit, Jacque Marak, in a statement to the media, said, “Our targets are MLAs, MDCs and other corrupt officers in the government.”

“In the coming year, we will abduct them and according to their deeds, they will be punished,” he said.

“Let this (Boro’s abduction and subsequent release) be the message to all those un-corrupt officers that they will not be touched. However, our targets are MLAs, MDCs and other corrupt officers,” Jacque said.

Meanwhile, affirming his commitment to restore peace in the Garo Hills region, Inspector General of Meghalaya Police (Western Range) G H P Raju has said operations in the region will continue.

On the release of P K Boro, Raju said there was a need to change the strategy of the forces.

“I will not rest until peace is restored in the entire Garo Hills region,” Raju said. (PTI)
