Crematorium opens

 SHILLONG: After three years of dedication into making his dream a reality, Ma Kambel Shullai finally completed his eco-friendly crematorium which he designed on behalf of the Sein Raij Niamtre, Shillong and finally set up by the Sein Raij at the Seng Khasi cremation ground, Jaiaw.

The need of having an eco-friendly crematorium was felt in view of the current global environmental crisis, Ma Shullai said adding “This system would contribute very less to the existing pollution in the surrounding as well as reduce use of firewood without disturbing the Jaintia faiths (niamtre) tenets”.

Ma Shullai received no formal education but he deserves all appreciation for coming up with an innovative idea in view of the global warming.

The eco-friendly crematorium was inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong at Seng Khasi Cremation Ground here on Wednesday. Lanong lauded Shullai for his innovative idea.

“It is high time for the government to take up the matter by creating an awareness that all crematoriums should be of this kind”, the Deputy Chief Minister added.

Earlier, MLA of Mawprem Manas Chaudhuri said Ma Shullai’s innovative idea will definitely become a nation wide acclaimed idea. “No one in the country would have thought of such a crematorium using minimum amount of fire wood” adding that Shullai can get his idea patented under the Patent Law.

Highly impressed by Ma Shullai’s invention, Chaudhuri even said that he will also take up the matter with the Seng Khasi of Riat Laban so that they can also set up such crematorium at the cremation ground in Riat Laban.

Meanwhile, MLA of Jaiaw lauded the efforts of Ma Shullai for his love and concern for humanity to have contributed his idea towards our civilization.

Others who spoke at the occasion were Dr Omarlin Kyndiah, General Secretary Niamtre Shillong, KC Rymbai, Dalloi Elaka Jowai, M F Blah, President Seng Khasi Kmie, O R Challam, President Sein Raij Niamtre, Jowai besides others.
