 NONGSTOIN: A shop belonging to Khriaksimai Nongsiej of Maiong Lumsyntiew was reduced to ashes in a fire which took place on Tuesday morning at Nongstoin market.

It is estimated that around Rs 20 lakh worth properties were damaged in the fire incident.

Sources said the incident took place while the coolies were transporting essential items from the neighboring shops at Maweit bazaar where the Meghalaya Energy Electric Corporation Ltd. Nongstoin had done the wiring just a week ago. It is suspected that the fire took place due to short circui as the wiring was not properly done.

Soon after the firing broke out the Nongstoin Police Fire and Emergency services rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
