Los Angeles: While Katy Perry remains tight-lipped about her separation from husband Russell Brand, her parents say the impending divorce is a gift from God.

Brand, 36, filed for divorce from his 27-year-old pop star wife recently and Perry’s parents, Pastors Keith and Mary Hudson, expressed their relief while preaching at Church on the Rise congregation in Westlake, Ohio, reported Ace Showbiz.

“I’m sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight. I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012,” said her mother Mary, 63, in her first service since the divorce papers were filed by their estranged son-in-law. Perry’s father got emotional while delivering his speech.

“I love my daughter and I will always love her. Stop being judgemental and critical. Do not close the doors to your loved ones, especially your children just because they do not like what you do or what you are, they are still praying that you stay in the race. They are counting on you,” he said.

He also said that Perry’s success in showbiz has opened opportunity for them to share their beliefs with guarded and gated people like so many Hollywood superstars out there.

“God has given us a platform to go in and meet people and they like us because we are cool. We are not threatening,” he added. (PTI)
