ECI gives nod to NPF ‘Cock’ symbol for Manipur polls

KOHIMA: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has given green signal to the Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidates to use ‘Cock’ symbol in the January 28 Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.

NPF Secretary General K G Kenye, who returned from New Delhi after receiving the allotment of the symbol from the ECI, said Varinder Kumar, Secretary to ECI, through a letter addressed to Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur was conveyed the same.

Mr Kumar in his letter informed that NPF was a registered political party in Nagaland having reserved symbol ‘Cock’, and as requested by the party under para 10 of the Election Symbol (Reservation & allotment) order, 1968 — Naga People’s Front, the Commission had decided for concession in allotment of the same symbol for the 12 NPF candidates contesting the election in Manipur.

In this regard, ECI had instructed the CEO and Returning officers concerned in Manipur to allow NPF candidates to use the symbol “subject to strict fulfillment of each of the provisions of paragraph 13 thereof”.

NPF had issued party tickets on Saturday last to its 12 candidates. (UNI)
