Los Angeles: Katy Perry, who is struggling with the media spotlight over her divorce from Russell Brand, has cancelled her appearance a People’s Choice Awards where she is up for two awards.

The singer was scheduled to attend the ceremony with Brand but after they decided to split, Brand declined the offer amid rumours that he was asked not to attend the event to avoid a possible clash between waring couple.

The awards ceremony, set for January 11, would have marked the pop singers first public outing since Brand filed for divorce, the Hollywood Reporter said.

“Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS,” the singer tweeted.

The double nominee, who’s up for both favorite pop artist and favorite female pop artist, was scheduled to appear at the awards.

It is Perry’s first tweet since she slammed critics on January 7 over reports concerning her split where she warned fans not to believe in any gossip related to her marriage.

“Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, “close sources” or my family,” she wrote on Twitter.

Brand, whom the singer wed in India in 2010, filed for divorce on December 30, citing “irreconcilable differences.” (PTI)
