ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said on Friday a traffic management system with state-of-the-art applications to minimise road accidents which claiming hundred of lives every year in this land-locked state would be introduced soon.
The government was contemplating to introduce the system by involving NGOs, transport associations, district administration, police and transport department to create awareness among the masses on road and traffic safety measures so as to minimise accidents, he said while addressing the road safety awareness campaign attended by few hundreds of government and private drivers.
Expressing concern that Arunachal Pradesh is the only state in the world recording rampant cases of drunken driving leading to numerous accident deaths, he lauded the PHQ traffic cell incharge DIGP Robin Hibu for his non-stop campaign since his tenure as SP to contain the menace.
The trend has to be reversed by adhering to traffic rules as it is time for Arunachal to come out of the archaic mindset to match its steps for progress.
He said all safety measures would be incorporated in the new system, including construction of separate parking places for different vehicles, construction of better road network, including four-lane in the Capital Complex, over bridges and sky pass (with fund under the SPA) to control traffic snarls, besides installation of CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas in the state capital to detect and bring the guilty to book.
Assuring all possible help, including additional manpower to strengthen the campaign and training programmes for drivers, students and civilians, he said one and all have to exercise caution to avoid accident which cut shot precious life, leaving many dreams unfulfilled.
Though the campaigning had reduced the accident and related deaths during the last three years, but all out efforts should be made to make Arunachal an accident-free state in 2012, he said without mincing any words.
Mr Tuki, who also holds the Home portfolio, directed the state police to be more vigilant and adhere to strict checking of fake driving licences and under-aged drivers and penalized them as per the prevailing law. He also stressed on conducting compulsory training for drivers in all districts of the state, saying such activities would create awareness among them and indirectly minimise accidents.
Highlighting the vast eco-adventure, culture tourism potential which is opening up to boost the local economy, the Chief Minister said the drivers are the first ambassadors to impress the tourists through their well manners, proper information and helping attitude for the guests go back as friends to showcase the enchanting natural beauty, its people and their hospitality to the rest of India.
”People any where in India are willing to visit Arunachal but the people have to be prepared for that which holds key to the growth of state tourism, ” said Mr Tuki, who was assured by Union Culture Minister Kumar Selja of all possible help of her ministry for development and promotion of culture and historical monuments of the state.
He administered a pledge on safe driving to the gathering after giving away Trophy of Life Saver and commendation certificate 10 unsung heroes in recognition of the services in saving the lives of accident victims. (UNI)
