ITANAGAR: A mob set ablaze four buses and attacked police personnel with stones and arrows late Saturday night after a bus hit two pillion riders near civil secretariat in the Arunachal Pradesh capital town.

The mob went on the rampage when a bus carrying security personnel from Indira Gandhi Park here after a reality show, collided head-on with a motor cycle injuring two students at around 11 pm on Saturday night.

The two students were admitted to Rama Krishna Hospital in critical condition.

“An unruly mob tried to attack the bus on the accident spot but police took it to Itanagar police station,” Capital Complex superintendent of police Hibu Tamang said.

Irked over the action of the police, the mob went to the police station and demanded for handing over the driver and the bus which was refused by police.

The mob also tried to set ablaze the police station besides blocking the national highway at several locations.

“Police lobbed two tear gas shells to disperse the mob but they directly went to the bus terminus and set on fire four buses of the state transport department besides damaging four other,” the SP said.

There were altogether 28 buses in the terminus and police could remove 20 buses to safe place.

The inferno was so massive that it could spread to nearby buildings and market complexes, the SP said adding, due to prompt action of fire brigade personnel, the fire was controlled within the terminus. A case has been registered, the SP added. (PTI)
