Fire at Thoubal health office
IMPHAL: Fire broke out at Chief Medical Officer’s office and family welfare office, Thoubal, on Saturday. This resulted in complete burn down of documents, money, computers, medical equipment worth crores of rupees. A woman noticed smoke billowing out from a room and she called others a huge fire was seen. The offices were closed down as Saturday was a holiday. Fire tenders rushed in and the fire was brought under control. The exact cause of the fire was not yet known. (UNI)
Clash claims one in Dimapur
KOHIMA: An NSCN (Khaplang) cadre was shot dead on Friday night at Sugar Mill Village in Dimapur town during an inter-factional clash between NSCN (Khaplang) and GPRN/NSCN (Khole-Kitovi). The victim identified as ‘ss Lieutenant’ Tony Kiho sustained eight bullet injuries, sources quoting eyewitness said. Ten empty shells of 7.65 Self Loading Rifle (SLR) were recovered from the spot, police said, adding investigation was on, police said. (UNI)
YMA helps fire victims
AIZAWL: Central Committee of Young Mizo Association (YMA) has collected more than Rs 30 lakh through its 90 branches in Aizawl for the victims of the fire that ravaged Saiha town in south Mizoram’s Saiha district, J Lalsailova, finance secretary of Central YMA on Saturday said. Lalsailova told PTI that the money would be handed over to YMA’s Saiha group on Tuesday by a team of the central YMA leaders in Saiha. More than 66 families were affected by the fire that damaged parts of Saiha on February 1 and gutted 29 private houses and three government buildings while ten houses have to be dismantled in order to control the raging fire. Three persons were injured while trying to put out the fire. (PTI)
Boy killed in fire at Tawang
ITANAGAR: A boy was charred to death when a fire broke out at the monks quarters within the famous Tawang Monastery premises in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday evening. Tawang spokesman Gombu Tsering said the fire, which broke out at around 4.30 pm due to electric short circuit, completely gutted the ‘Sha’ (Lama’s quarter) in the vicinity of the monastery. Police, district administration, local citizens and the monks rescued four monks from the inferno. (PTI)
