Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday asserted that his government’s focus has always been on rural development.

”As our government is village-oriented, the responsibility lies upon the Project Directors (PDs), Chief Executive Officers (CEO) and Block Development Officers (BDO) to ensure that the rural people, especially the poor, get the benefit from the schemes meant exclusively for them”, Gogoi said while reviewing rural development programmes with the officers here.

Gogoi urged the officials to ensure that the rural people were not deprived of the benefits of the various schemes meant for them.

The Chief Minister said the genuine problems faced by the officials would be addressed for smooth implementation of the rural development programmes but those found erring in discharging their duties would have to face stern action.

Gogoi directed the panchayat and rural development department to appoint an independent body for assessment of the rural development schemes at the field level.

Assam Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development Rockybul Hussain called upon officials to gear up the implementation of MNREGA, IAY and other schemes and his department would go in for social audit for all rural development schemes to weed out corruption. (PTI)
