4 MLAs expelled from party in Arunachal

Itanagar: Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) has expelled all its four dissident MLAs, who had joined the ruling Congress, for a period of six years. Phurpa Tsering elected from Dirang constituency, Kumsi Sidisow from Thrizino-Buragaon, Takam Pario from Palin) and Markio Tado from Tali) have been expelled from PPA due to their anti-party activities and breach of party discipline, a PPA release said here on Tuesday. All the four PPA MLAs quit en-block on December 27 last year. After their joining the strength of the Congress in the state has increased to 46 in the 60-member house.

Their merger was officially announced by Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong under the provision of the Tenth Schedule of Constitution and Members of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (Disqualification on Ground Defection) Rules, 1987. (PTI)

Three drown in Kaladan river in Mizoram

Aizawl: Three people, including a couple, drowned in Kaladan river that forms international border between India and Myanmar in southern Mizoram on Tuesday. Jonathana (25), his wife Duhpari (23) and one other C Lalrinsanga, all of them residents of Niawhtlang village in Mizoram’s Saiha district, were wading across the river when Duhpari lost ground and drowned. The two men also drowned in their attempt to save the woman. Sources said the area was deeper than they had anticipated. There was one other man and the couple’s children who survived. They were on their way back from Belhar village in Myanmar where they attended a church conference. The bodies have been recovered by locals, who immediately conducted a search operation. (UNI)

UNIHPC-D ends ‘war of words’ with ousted leader

Aizawl: Hmar People’s Convention-Democratic (HPC-D), an underground outfit fighting for the Hmars, has called it quits to what it termed as press release battle with its expelled leader Lalhmingthanga Sanate. In a press handout e-mailed to local newspapers here on Tuesday, the HPC-D said, the outfit, after the ceasefire with the Assam Government and the Central Government, is currently engaged in a constructive political process in Assam. To secure the political aspirations of the Hmar people of Assam, the HPC-D (Assam region) will be headed by its vice-chairman Elvis L Hmar and secretary David L Hmar. The HPC-D, hereby, reiterate its stand that it will not engage in any press release battle with the expelled Lalhmingthang Sanate who outrageously sold out the unity and integrity of the party, the communiqué said. The HPC-D last year expelled its founder president Lalhmingthanga Sanate for allegedly going against the interests of people of the community. He allegedly signed a deed of agreement with the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) without consulting the high command. The statement informed on Tuesday that the HPC-D, after expelling its president Lalhmingthang Sanate, put the party in interim for six months. (UNI)
