Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday stressed on the need of Satellite township and suburban development.
Inaugurating the Kohima Village Development Road (VDB) Link Road of Rural Development Block Kohima constructed under MGNREGS from Ruliezou (Indira Gandhi Stadium) National Highway 2 to Seithogei on National Highway 29, Mr Rio felt that people should have better and proper planning with positive thinking to expand towards the outskirts of the state capital and called upon the land owners to have positive mindset to donate their lands to Government for the developmental works.
The chief minister also extended his Angami Sekrenyi festival greetings to the people and also congratulated the Kohima Village Council and VDB Kohima village for successfully completing the link road.
He hoped that with the establishment of the link road, it would now certainly ease the flow of vehicular traffic in the capital and said that the road can serve the people to a great extent in transport and communication.
In his speech, Nagaland Parliamentary secretary Rural Development and Rural Employment and Poverty Alleviation S. Pangnyu Phom said that the Government has given power to the villages to implement the Government schemes at the village level and expressed happiness that the Kohima Village had judiciously utilized the funds in constructing the link road.
He also said that though the link road was constructed under MGNRGES, however there was no fund provision for the maintenance and requested the Government to hand over the constriction works to the state PWD Department.
Kohima VDB Secretary John Sote submitted the VDB report, where he said the road constructed started under MGNRGES in 2010 and inaugurated today was constructed at the cost of Rs 1,50,1,2,96 generating 1,27,1,29 man-days.
The function was chaired by Vilhouzhalie Dziivichii, Chairman of the Kohima Village Council. (UNI)
