SHILLONG: The State Government is contemplating to erect a life size statue of legendary Khasi poet U Soso Tham near the Kba river at Sohra, in addition to another statue proposed at the Children’s Park in Siatsohphen (Sohra).

This was announced by Parliamentary Secretary and Sohra MLA Dr PW Khongjee on Wednesday.

“We have decided to erect another 5-ft tall statue of the legendary Khasi poet facing the Kba river with a pen and a paper in his hands,” Khongjee informed, adding that the statue would remind the youth of the inspiring works of the celebrated poet.

Khongjee, meanwhile, also informed that they were mired by a slight problem with proposed 8-ft tall statue to be erected at the Soso Tham Children’s Park in Siatsohphen (Sohra).

“We are finding it difficult to finalise the dress pattern of the life size statue as we are not sure whether Soso Tham wore traditional attires or Western clothes,” Khongjee said.

He also informed that a Kolkata-based firm has been identified which would be assigned the task of erecting both the statues, while adding that they are planning to complete these task before the end of September.
