Opium worth Rs 3 crore seized in Nagaland

Kohima: Dimapur police seized of three kgs of opium, worth of Rs three crore in international market, from Dimapur Railway station on Tuesday last, official sources on friday said.

One person, a resident of Purul village in Senapati district of Manipur, who was in possession of the contraband, was arrested in this connection. Police said the illegal drug was found concealed in a bag along with vegetables.

As per confession of the accused, the consignment was brought from across the international border to be disposed off in Dimapur.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 in this connection and further investigation is in progress to kaput the entire smuggling gang, sources said.

In a separate incident, the personnel of Assam Rifles confiscated an assortment of illicit liquor and ganja in four different places. (UNI)
