NEW DELHI: Myriad colours and flavours from North-East India were on display on Saturday at the Hindu college in a first of its kind fest celebrating the physical and aesthetic beauty of the region.
‘NEtym’, a day-long festival for the students and teachers of Delhi University showcased the art forms of the region and its unique delicacies. “Netym is an endevour to celebrate the North-East in full measure, a geographical entity, blessed with breathtaking natural beauty,” said a statement from the organisers.
On display at the college were handicrafts and fine artistry from the region, as also its rich cultural heritage. For the connoisseurs of food, the festival also boasted of stalls offering varied dishes that North-East is famous for. Eleven stalls showcasing artifacts, handicrafts and crafts from all seven states of the North-East were put up at the college premises.
Delicacies from Assam such as Narhipitteha, Jalpan and Dillor Laddoo was a major crowd puller. “This event is one of its kind to showcase culture of the North-East to North-Easterners but it should not be taken as ghettoisation. Right way to see it would be to position it as broad streaming. The event will become an annual one from now on,” said Vinay Shrivastava, Principal, Hindu College. (PTI)
