Lucknow: A day after the Mayawati cabinet recommended dissolution of the Uttar Pradesh assembly, the Governor was yet to receive the recommendation late Monday, Raj Bhavan officials said.

Sources in the chief minister’s office, however, told IANS that the resolution, passed by the cabinet, through a circular method — adopted by the Bahujan Samaj Party government in absence of cabinet ministers at one place at a given time — was being compiled and would “be sent to Governor B.L. Joshi Tuesday afternoon once the results are out”.

“It is a mere formality and just a technical move that has not much significance vis a vis the timing,” said a senior government official.

Meanwhile, a senior official in the governor’s office said: “In all possibility, Chief Minister Mayawati would be coming herself with the resolution Tuesday afternoon once the results are out”.

“I believe she has done her ground work and would come tomorrow (Tuesday),” the Raj Bhavan official said.

Conducting of the constitutional obligation before time took many by surprise, as the outgoing government usually passes such a resolution only after the poll results are out.

Once such a resolution is passed and signed by the chief minister, it is taken to the governor for approval and issuance of notification declaring dissolution of the state assembly.

The move assumes significance, as most polls have given a lead to the Samajwadi Party (SP) suggesting that the BSP could well be voted out of power in India’s most populous state. (IANS)
