Dhaka to honour CM’s mother

 Shillong: Convenor of the National Committee to Honour Foreign Friends of the Bangladesh Liberation War, Dr Dipu Moni, who is also the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, has invited, Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma to a function for honouring his late mother Rawshanara Begum Sangma on March 27, next.

The Committee which has been specially constituted, by the Bangladesh Government to honour outstanding friends of Bangladesh has formally communicated to Dr Sangma, their decision to honour his late mother for her contribution and to express gratitude on behalf of the people of Bangladesh. Dr Dipu Moni in his letter says, “We are mindful that your mother’s support came at a critical time when we stood up against barbaric atrocities and the worst ever genocide in world history and contributed to the eventual emergence of Bangladesh.”

Stating that the Bangladesh Government is cognizant of the fact that the decision to formally recognize Late Rawshanara Begum Sangma’s contribution has come forty years after achieving independence, but the omission is set right for posterity and the world. The official ceremony will be held on March 27 and Dr Sangma has been invited to receive the award on behalf of his mother. The honours will be conferred by the Prime Minister and President of Bangladesh at the South Plaza of the Parliament building.
