Relief for examinees

SHILLONG: Granting a relief to students appearing in SSLC and HSSLC examinations, the State Government has decided to reduce the duration of load shedding from four hours to two and half hours.
Accordingly it will be effective from 1.30 am to 4 am. At present the load shedding is effective from 1 am to 5 am.
Power Minister AT Mondal conveyed the government’s decision to a KSU delegation, which called on him here on Wednesday.
KSU’s education cell chief Donald V Thabah said during the meeting the KSU education cell asked the Power Minister to withdraw load shedding in view of the ongoing examinations.
To a suggestion to enforce power cuts during day time, the Minister said it would affect functioning of banks and other institutions.
“He told us that the supply of power to industries in Byrnihat has been restricted,” Thabah added.
The KSU delegation also submitted a memorandum where it alleged that in rural areas power cuts last for 8 to 9 hours. Electoral roll: Meanwhile, KSU has urged the Chief Electoral Officer P Naik to ensure that illegal migrants are not included in the voters’ list Talking to newsmen after a meeting with Naik on Wednesday, KSU president Daniel Khyriem said the Union expressed concern over the recent circular issued by the election department where direction was given to electoral registering officers to register names of all persons who approach for registration. The KSU leader said the electoral officers should ask for valid documents for inclusion of a person’s name in the electoral roll. Stating that population in East Khasi Hills district has doubled in just 10 year, the KSU leader said, “The figure shows that a huge number of people are there in the district with doubtful antecedents.”
