TURA: The district administration has taken decisive steps to check the water crisis in Tura town by imposing penal fines on willful defaulters and polluters who dump waste and impurities in to the nearby streams . The district administration passed a prohibitory order in which among other things there was imposed a complete ban on dumping of waste into the water bodies , wastage of water and defiling and contamination of the water sources .
Officers of the Tura Municipal Board , Urban Planning , GHADC and PHE departments inspected the Tura Supermarket area, Chandmary and Babupara and took stock of the measures that need to be taken to clean up the filth that has cropped up near the streams.
The situation is grave as several settlers have built up tenements near the streams and are directing their toilet water and filth into the stream . The team directed the magisterial team to take strong action against the owners of old building who have rented out their houses to multiple residents who are living in filth and dumping into the stream . People who have built structures and septic tanks have been warned and directed to clean up immediately as the next visit shall entail imposition of heavy fines and prosecution .
The district administration also had a prolonged BRGF meeting to discuss the perspective plan for 2012-17 and annual plan for the next financial year in which all the line departments participated . It was decided that the focus for the annual year 2012-13 and the next five years shall be on water conservation , rainwater harvesting , protection of catchment areas , sanitation and hygiene , supply of drinking water to schools and institutions .
Meanwhile, the PHE department has convinced the residents of Boldorengre to allow water to be used for injecting into the feeder at Edenbari which will augment water supply. Work is on in full swing for injecting from Dagal stream also .
