Training, distribution of improved livestock

 SHILLONG: Dr SV Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Umiam has initiated a programme – Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) with an aim to support economically poorer tribal people of the state directly by distributing improved germplasm of livestock and poultry at their doorstep.

Accordingly a 3-day training programme on “Training cum Distribution of Improved Livestock and Poultry Germplasm” was organized at Mawlein Village in Ribhoi District from March 13-15 under the banner of Livestock Production Division, ICAR Research Complex headed by Dr Suresh Kumar D. S.

The training includes distribution of improved pig, poultry and goat germplasm among 50 beneficiary farmers of the village and hand-on training on pig, poultry and goat husbandry. The first day of the training was led by Dr Rantu Basumatary, Scientist, Livestock Production Division.

In his presentation, the well adopted exotic breeds of pig in the state and their breeding strategies to improve the productivity of local pig germplasm were covered followed by Dr MH Khan on the topic “Reproductive management of Pig and Goat, Dr G Kadirvel on General Management of Pigs, Dr K Murmu on Integration of Pig and Goat for Improving Productivity, Dr pramod Singh on Nutritional management of Pigs and Poultry, Dr ZB Dubbal and Dr Sandeep Ghatak on Significance of Zoonotic Diseases of Livestock and Poultry on Human Health.
