New Delhi: Team Anna seemed defiant on their comments against Members of Parliament even as Lok Sabha MPs, cutting across party lines, have launched an all-out attack against social activist Anna Hazare and his team for alleged derogatory language used against Parliamentarians.
There are indications that a resolution condemning the remarks could be moved on Tuesday in the Lok Sabha.
However, Team Anna has been maintaining that it has done nothing wrong.
Team member and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi said what has been said by the team was all in public domain and is not becoming known for the first time.
She said it has been reported by the media from time to time.
“In fact the question before our politicians and bureaucrats is why this state of affairs at all. Why have we come this far?” Ms Bedi said.
She wished someone in Parliament had called a special session for reflection to take into account people’s perception which has been aired with evidence.
The former IPS officer said “shooting the messenger” is not the solution. The solution lies in addressing the message with all the seriousness it deserves.
“This is the need of the hour. People are looking for clean and honest political class. If they were serious they could have brought in electoral, police, judicial and administration reforms by now, besides an effective Lokpal. Have they?” she asked.
Ms Bedi said Parliament’s time is preciously expensive and it could be put to better use by resolving such issues like political parties would not give tickets to tainted candidates.
“Law makers know that any government official marked doubtful integrity is denied promotion. What about them? (politicians). Pl (please) listen to ur (your) voters appraisal!” she said on twitter.
She appealed to Parliament to pass a strategic vision which includes zero tolerance towards ‘tainted MPs’.
“Will good MPs on Tuesday stand by 162 MPs with criminal backgrounds or wud (would) they demand cleansing of Parliament. Whole country wud watch on Tuesday,” another Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal tweeted. (UNI)
