SHILLONG: The Sub Committee of Malki locality has decided to re-appoint HP Oflyn Dohling as the Rangbah Shnong of Malki on March 31.
The decision was, however, questioned by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), comprising FKJGP (FKJGP) Malki circle, KSU, Malki unit and the Seng Samla Malki and the Greater Malki People’s Organisation (GMPO) stating that the decision was taken without the prior notice of its associated members.
It may be reminded that Malki Dorbar Shnong was dissolved following pressure from a section of the youth of the locality last year after they unearthed various anomalies in the functioning of the Dorbar under the leadership of then Rangbah Shnong HP Oflyn Dohling.
Immediately, after its dissolution, a sub committee was formed headed by Jemino Mawthoh as its chairman and PK Sohtun as its secretary and representatives of the GMPO and JAC as its members.
“What is shocking to note is that the decision to re-appoint Dohling as the new Rangbah Shnong of Malki was taken without our notice”, GMPO general secretary A Kharbuli told reporters here on Wednesday.
While terming Jemino Mawthoh as the ‘Dalal’ of Oflyn, Kharbuli said Mawthoh just directed the members of the sub committee to be present on March 31 to formally re-appoint Oflyn a new Rangbah Shnong.
“We got this information just a week before the gathering and what surprised us even more is that this matter just emerged out of the blue without proper consultation with members of the committee”, he added.
Kharbuli also alleged that there was no formal invitation from the people of Malki to contest for election.
“Their (Mawthoh and Sohtun) intention is to bring back Oflyn as the Rangbah Shnong of Malki which we strongly opposed”, he added.
Meanwhile, JAC Chairman W Lyngdoh mentioned that the issue to form a new Dorbar Shnong at Malki was discussed in December whereby three adult members of Malki including Oflyn applied.
“But, later we came to know that all the three people has withdrawn except Oflyn and this has created a sense of suspicion and we know that there is something behind their withdrawal ”, Lyngdoh said.
