SHILLONG: Mairang legislator Metbah Lyngdoh is all set to join Congress.
Speculations have been rife for the past one year about UDP legislator joining Congress.
According to reports in a section of the press on Monday, Lyngdoh held a meeting with his supporters to convey his intention to join Congress on March 24.
Confirming this, sources on Tuesday told The Shillong Times that the meeting was held at the office of the UDP legislator at Mission near Khatsawphra Sports Association (KSA) stadium, Mairang.
“In the meeting he (Lyngdoh) even tried to persuade the UDP supporters to join Congress along with him,” sources said.
“By joining Congress, he (Lyngdoh) would have a smooth sail in the upcoming election due in 2013 since he would get the support of both Congress and UDP,” sources said.
There would not be much problem for Lyngdoh to join Congress “since he is known for his close proximity with Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma”, sources said.
When contacted, the UDP legislator, however, neither confirmed nor denied the report saying “I have not read the report which appeared in the press so I cannot comment anything now.”
