New Delhi: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma on Monday took strong exception to detention of scores of individuals from North-East presuming them as agitating Tibetans when the Chinese top leaders visited the national capital recently and urged the Union Home Ministry to give an all India character to the Delhi police for effective handling of such sensitive situations in future.

He views expressed during the Chief Ministers’ conference found resonance with all the Chief Ministers of the North-East besides others.

The Home Ministry also assured that steps would be taken in future so that such wrongful confinement does not happen and innocent persons from the region are not affected.

“Delhi being the national capital its police forces should be drawn from all over the country including the N-E,” Dr Sangma said adding “It should have persons from all over the country instead of just neighboring states specially at the base level to deal with such situations.”
