United edge Malki to win Super Div cricket

 SHILLONG: United XI had just enough on the board to edge Malki CC by nine runs in the final of the Super Division Cricket League played at Cricket Ground, Polo on Monday.

Man-of-the-match Jeffrey Wahlang scored a steady 65 of 68 balls while Asa Warjri chipped in 48 runs to take the United total to a decent 198 for the loss of nine wickets in 40 overs after they chose to bat. Sanvert Kurkalang (2-32-8) and Pynkmenlang Shangpliang (2-26-8) were the pick of the bowlers for Malki.

In reply, Malki fought well with a promising start. Sylvester MylliemPdah (69 of 112 balls) and Wanlambok Nongkhlaw (61 of 81 balls) made decent contributions but the rate at which they scored ultimately meant that Malki were restricted to 189 for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 40 overs.

For United Bishen Thapa scalped three wickets for 40 runs while Mawlynnai Marbaniang claimed one.

The winning team ran-away with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a trophy while runners-up Malki were given Rs 8,000. Prizes were distributed by N.Bhattacharjee , Gen Secretary MCA, L Pyngrope, Vice President SCA, Manik Das Joint Secretary SCA among others.

NFU’s Raj Biswa was declared the man-of-the-tournament for his excellent performance throughout.
