Shillong: The State police will order an inquiry into allegation of nine Korean pastors, who accused Meghalaya police personnel manning the infiltration check point at Byrnihat in Ri-Bhoi district of extorting money from them.

This was indicated by the state DGP N Ramachandran.

The Thailand-based pastors who arrived here on Thursday in connection with some Church-related matters alleged that they were forced to pay Rs 1000 to infiltration personnel manning the check point.

The issue which may be termed as a major embarrassment for the state has drawn flak from various sections of the society.

Police, however, denied the incident while expressing difficulty in proceeding with the case since no formal complaint was lodged by the pastors.

Meanwhile, the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) on Friday demanded the state government to book those police personnel involved in this case saying “this is an embarrassment not only to the infiltration department but also for the state as a whole.”
