Shillong: Arriving late at functions has become a habit with Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

On Wednesday he arrived nearly two hours behind schedule for the foundation stone laying function of the Islamia Secondary School.

The function was scheduled to start at 10.30 am in the morning but finally got underway at 12.20 when the Chief Minister arrived at the school premises.

It is learnt that the reason for the delay was a delegation which met Dr Mukul Sangma at his residence on Wednesday morning.

The Chief Minister’s delay was much to the discomfort of students who were on their feet right from 10.30 am when the function was scheduled to start.

Even Mawprem legislator Manas Chaudhuri and Meghalaya State Women Commission chairperson Roshan Warjri were seen waiting for the arrival of Dr Sangma since they reached the venue at the scheduled time.

The delay also irked some media persons who finally left the spot and went to cover other functions, adding this is not the first time that Dr Sangma turned up late.

On earlier occasions too he had arrived late at functions, they complained.
