SHILLONG: The Union Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation (MDWS) will release the first installment of fund to Meghalaya under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) before May5.

Union Drinking Water & Sanitation Minister, Jairam Ramesh, informed this to state PHE minister Shitlang Pale during a conference of State Ministers held recently in New Delhi.

Ramesh has also assured that he would look into the State Government’s request for changing the funding pattern for Total Sanitation Campaign from the existing Centre-State share of 70:30 to 90:10 (90 % for the Centre and 10 % for the State).

Meanwhile, it was informed that Meghalaya attained the 16th rank in the country with regards to implementation of Rural Water Supply Schemes and Total Sanitation Campaign for the period 2011-12.
