KHADC session

The summer session of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will commence on June 19 at 11am at the Council Hall in the city, an official statement said on Friday

Seminar

Training prog

The Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Assembly Social and Economic Life Development Association (SELDA) in collaboration with NEICORD&UNDP, NERO had organized a three-day State Level Training of Trainers for Church Leaders at Pastoral Centre, Cleve Colony Shillong from June 7. Twenty five participants from different Church denominations are participating in the three-day-long training. The purpose of the training was to build the capacity of Church Leaders of Meghalaya towards active involvement in response to HIV&AIDS. The training was inaugurated by the Project Director, Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) and opening prayer by Rev. RF Kharkrong.

Two hurt

Two persons — Pynhunlang and Aibiang Shadap — working in a soap factory at Wah Rymbai, Ummulong under Thadlaskein Block, Jaintia Hills sustained burn injuries due to an explosion of a diesel drum on Friday. As they are unaware about the leakage in the drum, both the laborers lit a fire underneath the diesel container resulting in the blast. The 108 ESA based at Jowai admitted the duo to Jowai Civil Hospital and then to Shillong Civil Hospital.

Tree plantation

The NSS Unit, Laban Bengali Boys’ HS School is observing a weeklong World Environment Day by a tree plantation program in the school premises starting on Friday. In the coming days, the school will distribute saplings in the neighboring areas besides awareness drive on “Save Umshyrpi River” and the Meghalaya Social Forestry Department has rendered their full support to the NSS Unit.
