Reduction of petrol prices

From our Correspondent

NONGPOH: The Nongpoh Region Auto Owners & Drivers Association (NRAO&DA) on Saturday issued a one week deadline to the State Government to reduce the price of petrol in the State failing to which the Association will be compelled to hike auto fares.

The decision was taken in the general body meeting of the Association attended by 350 members held here under the chairmanship of its president Marcus Marten.

Speaking to this scribe after the meeting, Marten said, “We have decided to give one week time to the government to reduce state excise duty which in turn will lower the price of petrol as is the case in other states.”

He also said that the Association will submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Ri-Bhoi District regarding the same.

Marten also said the Association has expressed concern over the frequent hike in petrol prices which went up by almost Rs 8.50 per litre within a short span of time.

It may be mentioned that due to the support extended by the association, the Bharat Bandh on May 31 last was a grand success in Ri Bhoi District, especially in Nongpoh Town.

The Auto Rickshaw owners under the banner of the Association ply their vehicles from Nongpoh to Umden, Nongpoh to Umsaw Nongbri, Nongpoh to Shangbangla, Nongpoh to Quinine, Nongpoh to Marngar, Nongpoh to Pahambir and Nongpoh to Umnget.
