JOWAI: Residents of Khanduli village in Jaintia hills District has taken a strong exception against the appointment of the Sarkari Gaonbura (a government recognised headman) in Khanduli village secretly without informing the Dorbar Shnong.
The Khanduli Rangbah shnong, W. Langshiang has informed that the Assam Government through the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) appointed one Carlus Nongpoh-a resident of Khanduli village as the Sarkari Goanbura in Khnaduli area without the dorbar shnong’s knowledge.
The KAAC has also issued the order as per Order No. KAAC/REV/SGB-APPTT/31/2012 dated nil on the appointment of Nongpoh as the Sarkari Goanbura of the Greater Khanduli area.
The order stated, “Authorities of the KAAC, Diphu is pleased to appoint Carlus Nongpoh, son of Smith Myrkhap as new Sarkari Gaon Bura (SGB) of village Greater Khanduli area, Hamren Sub-Division and Police Station under West Rangkhang Mauza for the same village with immediate effect.
“We came to know the case only on Saturday last and the matter was brought up in the General meeting of the Dorbar shnong on Tuesday”, Rangbah shnong, Langshiang said, adding that the motive of the appointment of the Sarkari Goan Bura is nothing but to supervise development activities in the areas and mentioned that such ‘sectret’ appointments is not acceptable to the Khasi-Pnars people in the area. The dorbar shnong has meanwhile taken a unified decision to expell Nongpoh from the village. He further informed that the village authority handed over Nongpoh to the Saitsama Police for his security.
The Rangbah shnong, Secretary along with some of the Executive Members of the village dorbar had a meeting with JSU President had another meeting on Wednesday. The JSU jointly with the Dorbar shnong has again lodged another complaint against Nongpoh at Jowai Police station.
The Complaint stated that Nongpoh came to settle in Khanduli vilage in the year 1998 after he married to a lady of the village. He is working as LP School Teacher at Lum ASSISI Secondary School, Umshyngiar. The JSU and the Dorbar shnong has requested the concerned authority to punish Nongpoh in accordance with law.
