School bus conductor dead, students hurt in accident

 SHILLONG: A conductor of an Indian Air Force (IAF) school bus was killed on the spot while three school students and the driver received minor injuries after a truck loaded with logs rammed into the school bus at Saw Mer, Upper Shillong on Friday.

The conductor who died in the accident was identified as Sunil Pun (28) of Laitkor. Among the injured were Harsha Kumar (6), Sinjan Chattopadhyay (9) and Akansha Kumari and the driver of the bus, Subinay Choudhary (40).

Additional SP in charge Traffic Herbert Lyngdoh informed that the truck driver absconded soon after the accident.

Lyngdoh also informed that the truck driver had lost control of his vehicle at the sharp curve leading to the accident.

The truck which was overloaded with logs first hit a local cab (ML05-H-3036) driven by one Sylvester Kurkalang before ramming into the bus.

The police official informed that the school bus (04P16129H) was proceeding towards Upper Shillong while the truck (AS26-C-1195) was headed in the opposite direction. The injured were shifted to the Shillong Civil Hospital for treatment.
