NONGSTOIN: Assam Police personnel on Friday made a failed attempt to demolish the shed constructed for the fast-unto-death beginning Saturday after a huge number of villagers thwarted their move.

The Assam policemen arrived at the location of the fast near the Langpih Memorial Structure and attempted to demolish the shed but were unsuccessful.

Kharlyngdoh also informed that security arrangements have been beefed up in Langpih following the attempt. West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police R Muthu informed that a District Magistrate accompanied by Additional Superintendent of Police GD Kharwanlang would visit Langpih on Saturday.

Kharlyngdoh informed that as per the agreement between the two states, the Meghalaya Government had sent a fax to Assam mentioning about the construction of the shed for the fast beginning on Saturday.

Sources informed that the Assam Government was concerned that people in Assam too would emulate Pynskhemlang’s agitation call and hence an attempt was made from their side to disrupt the fast-unto-death programme.
