No other product sells like hot cakes except liquor.

Wine stores do brisk business especially in the

evenings.

These days many have got into the habit of stopping their cars, rolling down their windows and calling out at the liquor vendor (who already knows his customer’s brand) to bring their quota. They pay out the money and wait for the vendor to rush back to the shop to bring change. All this transaction takes time. Meanwhile there is a traffic jam building up behind the ‘liquor buying driver.’ But why would he care? This is a regular feature at the wine store in Jingkieng Nongthymmai. Many people who buy their booze just park their cars right next to the wine store. Although this creates a traffic jam, no one really cares because there are no cops around in the evening when the wine store does maximum business. Several irate citizens have complained to the cops but they (the cops) have just shrugged off the complaint with a stoic, “What can we do? We do not give booze licences.” Citizens who complain of their blood pressure rising to watch this daily scene have said that they would now approach the Commissioner of Excise to ask him to locate all the wine stores at a particular venue much like a ‘flea market.’ This they feel would put an end to obnoxious jams created by pompous drivers.
